Meet the Team
In the novel the Invisible Man, there are a few characters who play a major part in the Narrators journey. These characters are Brother Jack, Rinehart, Tod Clifton, Ras the Exhorter, and most importantly the narrator. Brother Jack is a white member of the Brotherhood and he is the one who confirms the narrator’s idea towards the society. Another significant character in this novel is Rinehart, he is a sort of character who is like an example or role model for the main character or in this case the narrator. Rinehart is considered a free man because he does as he pleases and does not care about other people’s opinions, he in a way shape shifts into multiple different types of people without absorbing too much attention to himself. Tod Clifton, another significant figure who is both intelligent and good looking but not all seem to see him in that way, in the middle of the novel he starts to build Sambo dolls which represented him in a way to show that he is not resembled with the stereotype that they gave him such as lazy and practically a slave. Lastly, Ras the Exhorter is a very agitated figure who does not like to be around people especially whites. The narrator uses him to use Ras’s words to try to overthrow the whites’ supreme power. The most necessary character the narrator himself, he is a very insecure and well invisible man. As the plot line progresses we can see the narrator excel in life and in his path to becoming seen in society as a well known individual rather than a no body.
